Terms of service for LitSource
Oct 24, 2025

Introduction and acceptance of terms

Welcome to LitSource ("we", "our", "us"). LitSource is an AI‑assisted biomedical literature search and citation discovery tool. By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use LitSource.

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and us. You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction (whichever is higher), to use LitSource.

Description of the service

LitSource helps you:

  • Paste claims or paragraphs and search across indexed biomedical literature (for example, PubMed, CrossRef, Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex);
  • Discover papers that may support or relate to your statements;
  • View highlighted snippets and export citations.

LitSource does not provide medical, legal, or clinical advice. Results are for research, educational, and drafting purposes only. You are responsible for independently verifying any information before using it in practice or publications.

Accounts and security

  1. Account creation – To access most features, you must create an account and provide accurate, complete information.
  2. Account security – You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account.
  3. Notification of misuse – You agree to notify us promptly at support@litsource.ai if you suspect any unauthorized use of your account.

We may suspend or close accounts that appear compromised or are being used in violation of these Terms.

Plans, credits, and payments

Certain features of LitSource are paid and may use a credit system:

  • Each analysis or search may consume a fixed or variable number of credits.
  • Your remaining credits and plan limits are shown in the interface.

Payments are processed by third‑party providers such as Stripe, PayPal, or other processors listed on the site. By purchasing a plan or credits, you agree to their terms as well as ours.

Unless otherwise stated on the pricing page or required by law:

  • All purchases are final and non‑refundable.
  • Prices and credit costs may change, but we will give reasonable notice for recurring subscriptions.
  • You are responsible for all charges associated with your selected plan and payment method.

If we are unable to charge your payment method, we may downgrade, suspend, or cancel your access to paid features.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use LitSource in violation of any applicable law, journal policy, or database terms (for example, by scraping, bulk‑downloading, or redistributing restricted content);
  • Input, upload, or share unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, or harmful content;
  • Attempt to decompile, reverse‑engineer, or otherwise access the Service in unauthorized ways;
  • Use automated scripts or bots to send excessive requests or attack our infrastructure;
  • Upload highly sensitive personal data (such as full medical records, patient identifiers, or government IDs).

We may investigate and suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

Intellectual property

  • The LitSource platform, including its software, design, trademarks, and branding, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
  • You retain ownership of the text you paste into LitSource and any notes or exports you create.
  • By submitting content to the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non‑exclusive license to process that content solely for the purpose of providing and improving LitSource (for example, running searches, generating results, maintaining history, and monitoring abuse).

Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our intellectual property to you.

AI‑generated and third‑party content

LitSource uses AI models, ranking systems, and third‑party literature databases. As a result:

  • Suggestions and highlighted snippets may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect;
  • The presence of a paper in results does not guarantee that it truly supports your claim;
  • We do not control the accuracy of external databases or publisher websites.

You are solely responsible for checking original sources, verifying citations, and ensuring that any statements you make in your work are accurate and properly supported.

Privacy and data collection

Our collection and use of personal data is described in our separate Privacy Policy. By using LitSource, you also agree to the practices described in that policy.

Termination and suspension

We may suspend or terminate your access to LitSource, with or without notice, if:

  • You materially breach these Terms;
  • Your use poses security, legal, or operational risks to us or others;
  • We are required to do so by law or by our service providers.

You may stop using LitSource at any time. If you cancel a paid subscription, it will generally remain active until the end of the current billing period, unless otherwise stated on the pricing page.

Disclaimer of warranties

LitSource is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non‑infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error‑free;
  • the results or citations will be accurate, complete, or suitable for your specific use;
  • defects will always be corrected within a specific timeframe.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we (and our affiliates, officers, employees, and partners) will not be liable for:

  • any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; or
  • any loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities,

arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, LitSource.

Where our liability cannot be fully excluded by law, our total aggregate liability arising from or relating to the Service will be limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid to us for the Service during the three (3) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50 (or equivalent in local currency).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LitSource and our affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which LitSource is operated, without regard to conflict‑of‑law principles.

Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms or the Service will, where permitted by law, be resolved through good‑faith negotiations. If not resolved, disputes will be submitted to the courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable law requires a different forum.

Changes to these Terms

We may update or modify these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (for example, in‑app notifications or email).

By continuing to use LitSource after changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the updated Terms.
