MLA citation generator guide

Building an MLA 9 works-cited list starts with accurate source details. Use the DOI tool to look up a journal article, then arrange its metadata using the official MLA guide.

Automatic MLA formatting is not available in LitSource. The linked converter outputs APA and AMA, not MLA. Do not submit its output as an MLA entry; use the original record and the official MLA guide to format it manually.

Prepare an MLA works-cited entry

  1. Identify the source and collect its author, title and publication details from the publisher.
  2. Use the DOI tool as a metadata lookup when the article has a DOI. Its formatted output is APA/AMA.
  3. Follow the official MLA works-cited guidance and your institution’s requirements, then check the final entry against the source.

MLA citation questions

Can LitSource automatically generate MLA citations?

Not yet. The existing DOI and PMID converters produce APA and AMA. This page explains how to collect metadata for a manually prepared MLA entry.

Can I relabel an APA entry as MLA?

No. Follow MLA’s works-cited guidance to arrange the original source details. Changing the label does not change the format.

Does a correct works-cited entry prove a claim?

No. Check the original paper’s methods and findings separately. Bibliographic accuracy and evidential support are different questions.
